Turning Pages: Discovering New Worlds, One Book at a Time

Do you ever wonder why some people love to read, while others don’t?🤔 Maybe you’ve heard someone say they don’t have time to read or that they don’t see the point of reading. I’ve heard these comments many times, and instead of arguing with them, I simply smile. When they ask me why I tell them that we encourage our children to read their books because we know that reading is crucial for growth and development. If we want to continue growing as individuals, we must continue to read and learn. It’s high time we practice what we preach…and become a better example for our children.

In the golden words of Francis Bacon, “Read not to contradict and confute; nor to believe and take for granted; nor to find talk and discourse; but to weigh and consider” – Francis Bacon

Here’s the thing, reading isn’t just a pastime rather it’s an essential skill that can enhance your life in countless ways. Whether you’re reading for pleasure or to gain knowledge and insights, there are numerous benefits to making reading a part of your lifestyle. Courtesy J.K Rowling and the magnificent world of witchcraft & magic, reading become part of my routine that I still treasure today (Oh boy, now I sound old😉). Jokes apart, I do hope, my daughter, Anaisha also turns out to be a huge Potterhead for all I know. I came across many people who just ask me why do you read. Let me spill the beans and give you a few reasons why should read as well🫰

Boost Creativity

Reading is an excellent way to boost creativity and imagination. We get exposure to new ideas and books can offer a wealth of information that can spark new ideas. When you read, you create mental images of the characters, settings, and events in your mind. This visualization helps to improve your imagination and creative skills.

Enhancement of Cognitive Function

Just as physical exercise is crucial for maintaining a healthy body, reading is essential for keeping our minds in shape. One of the most important benefits of reading is that it stimulates the brain and helps to keep it active and engaged. Reading exercises our minds, just as physical exercise works our muscles, helping to maintain our mental fitness and agility. Regular reading can also help to improve our memory and concentration, allowing us to focus better on tasks and remember important information 🧠

Develop Empathy

Reading can enable us to develop empathy and understand how to reach others. When we read about different experiences, perspectives, and cultures. Most of all we can learn to appreciate diversity and comprehend the challenges that others might face. This also forms the foundation for developing a strong emotional intelligence (EQ) 💖

Reading Can Help You Learn New Things

Finally, reading can help you to learn new things and expand your knowledge. Whether you’re interested in history, science, or philosophy, there is a book out there that can teach you something new. By exposing yourself to new ideas and perspectives, you’ll be able to better understand the world around you.💡

Just as we need to nourish our bodies with healthy food to maintain physical health, we need to nourish our minds with positive and enriching experiences to maintain mental health. It is one of the best ways to feed our brains and provide them with the stimulation and nourishment it needs to stay healthy and strong. In a nutshell, reading should be part of our lifestyle because of its countless benefits. Initially, you may find it boring 🥱, but there are ways to make it more engaging and enjoyable!🫶By finding the right book, focusing on the benefits, and making reading a part of your daily routine, you’ll be able to reap the rewards of this wonderful activity. So why not give it a try and see what you can discover? If you want you can start with the book, Attitude is Everything by Jeff Keller, which is a great book to pick because it offers practical insights on how to develop a positive mindset and achieve success in various aspects of life.
